About the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights

The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) is a membership-based organization of health professionals committed to advancing the right to health for all Zimbabweans.

Guided by principles of medical ethics, human rights, and social justice, ZADHR works to ensure that every individual enjoys the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. Through advocacy, education, and accountability, we strive to create a healthcare system that is accessible, equitable, and transparent.

What we aim for

Our Objectives

We have the following as our main objectives in out bid to protect the Right to Health in Zimbabwe

- EMPOWER HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

To equip and inspire health professionals with the knowledge, investigative skills, and analytical competence to understand, document, and address health rights violations in Zimbabwe and beyond.

- To actively engage and pressure the government to uphold, respect, and fulfill the right to health for all.

- Investigating and Reporting Violations

To systematically examine, record, and expose violations of the right to health.

- Building Strategic Alliances

To establish and strengthen partnerships with national, regional, and global medical organizations committed to human rights.

- Defending Members’ Rights

To safeguard and support members facing persecution for advocating health rights or upholding medical ethics as outlined by the World Medical Association.

- Upholding the Right to Health

To champion policies and actions that protect and promote universal access to healthcare as a fundamental human right.

What we do

What We Do

The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) is committed to promoting and protecting the right to health through various initiatives, including:

  • Empowering Medical Professionals – Encouraging and supporting doctors, healthcare workers, and members to use their expertise in advocating for human rights, with a special focus on the right to health.
  • Monitoring Policies and Legislation – Tracking government policies and laws that impact healthcare access, quality, and human rights to ensure they align with constitutional and international health rights standards.
  • Advocacy and Lobbying – Engaging key decision-makers, including the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare and the Parliament of Zimbabwe, to push for policies that uphold health rights and ethical medical practices.
  • Information Sharing and Awareness – Publishing and distributing regular reports, policy briefs, and updates on health rights issues in Zimbabwe and globally to educate stakeholders and the public.
  • Public Statements and Alerts – Issuing timely statements on critical health and human rights issues to raise awareness and mobilize action.
  • Capacity Building and Engagement – Organizing meetings, seminars, and discussion forums for medical professionals and healthcare workers to explore human rights concerns and strengthen advocacy efforts.
  • Legal and Professional Support – Providing legal assistance and other support to healthcare workers who face challenges or persecution while advocating for health rights.
  • Health Rights Database – Maintaining a comprehensive record of health rights violations, policy responses, and medical practitioners’ efforts to address these issues.

Through these initiatives, ZADHR remains at the forefront of advocating for a healthcare system that respects, protects, and fulfills the right to health for all Zimbabweans.
