THE RIGHT TO HEALTH ACCOUNTABILITY
Overview
The Right to Health Accountability Program is dedicated to ensuring transparency, responsibility, and progressive realization of the right to health in Zimbabwe. Accountability in healthcare means that governments and policymakers must be held responsible for their decisions, policies, and actions that impact public health.
Zimbabwe has signed several international covenants and treaties that define its legal obligations to protect, promote, and fulfill the right to health. As the duty-bearer, the government must demonstrate measurable progress in realizing this right. However, gaps in governance, implementation, and service delivery continue to threaten health outcomes. This program focuses on monitoring, evaluating, and advocating for stronger health sector accountability.

THE RIGHT TO HEALTH ACCOUNTABILITY
Our Approach

The program builds accountability through the following key actions:
✅ Empowering Communities & Health Professionals:
We equip health professionals, civil society, and communities with the knowledge and tools to demand accountability from the government.
✅ Systematic Data Collection & Monitoring:
Health professionals and community members gather data on:
- Policies and legislation affecting health rights
- Service delivery gaps in public healthcare
- Budgeting and financing for the health sector
✅ Evidence-Based Advocacy & Dialogue:
- The collected data is used to engage policymakers and government institutions such as the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare to demand action.
- Findings are presented in reports, policy briefs, and public forums to drive meaningful reforms.
✅ Specialized Monitoring Initiatives:
The program includes targeted surveys and monitoring efforts such as:
📌 Health Rights Survey – Assessing public awareness and experiences regarding health rights
📌 Health Financing Monitoring – Evaluating how health budgets are allocated and spent
📌 Monitoring the Right to Health Program – Tracking government commitments and policy implementation
