HEALTH AND HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION
ZADHR’s Health and Human Rights Education program aims to enhance knowledge, awareness, and accountability regarding the right to health in Zimbabwe. Through targeted training, we empower health professionals, community members, prisoners, and prison officers to monitor government commitments and advocate for health rights.
Our training is rooted in international and regional human rights instruments that Zimbabwe has ratified. It fosters discussions that develop policy demands for improved healthcare governance. The program also supports advocacy efforts pushing for Zimbabwe to ratify and domesticate key human rights treaties impacting health rights.
HEALTH AND HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION
The Objectives of the Programme Are As Follows
Our program seeks to:
- ✅ Educate and Train: Increase awareness of health rights among health professionals, community members, prisoners, and prison officers through structured training.
- ✅ Strengthen Accountability: Equip health workers to assess government commitments and advocate for transparent, rights-based health policies.
- ✅ Provide Resources: Distribute educational materials on health rights to empower professionals and communities.
- ✅ Amplify Voices: Create platforms where health workers and communities can express concerns, influence policies, and demand accountability.
- ✅ Engage Policymakers: Train parliamentarians and Ministry of Health officials on rights-based policy formulation and reform.
Why this Matters

- A Broken System: Zimbabwe’s healthcare system collapsed due to poor governance, lack of transparency, and the absence of a rights-based approach. Without urgent reform, millions remain vulnerable.
- The Role of Health Workers: Health professionals play a critical role in ensuring that the right to health is realized and that the sector is reformed for the benefit of all.
- Filling a Knowledge Gap: Medical and health training institutions do not offer education on the right to health, leaving many professionals unaware of their role in holding the government accountable.
- Bridging the Divide: Since 2003, ZADHR has been the only organization consistently training health workers and producing publications on health rights. We also collaborate with the Community Working Group on Health (CWGH) to ensure a broader impact.
